| There are 3 main types of laptop batteries - Nickel Cadmium (NiCd), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) and Lithium Ion (LiON). They differ in price, weight and specific characteristics.Lithium Ion (LiON) batteries are commonly recommended to use in technically advanced laptops. These batteries have enough power to run laptops and accessories, such as mp3 players, DVD players and USB devices. They are not that heavyweight as NiCd and NiMH laptop batteries and do not produce any memory effect. If used in the proper way, LiON batteries are expected to run for about three years, but it is necessary to clarify that the three-year period begins once batteries are made and not when you start to exploit them. A pc battery should be replaced or re-charged when the pc cannot work anymore unless attached to the main supply via an adaptor. Below are a few guidelines to prolong laptop battery's longevity.• Avoid frequent full discharges, as this puts additional strain on a pc battery. Partial discharges with frequent recharges are preferable for lithium-ion batteries than a full discharge. Recharging partly charged lithium-ion batteries does not cause harm, as they have no memory. Short laptop battery's life in a laptop normally hangs upon the heat rather than charge - discharge patterns.• Batteries with fuel gauge (laptops) should be calibrated by applying a deliberate complete discharge once every 30 charges. Otherwise, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases will cut off the pc prematurely.• Keep a LiON laptop battery cool.• Remove a battery from a laptop that is run on a fixed power. (Some laptop producers are worried about dust and moisture that gather inside the laptop battery casing.)• Avoid buying spare LiON batteries for later deployment. Observe the date of expiration. Do not buy old stock, even if it is available at reduced prices.• If you have a spare lithium-ion laptop battery, deploy one to the fullest and keep the other one cool by putting it into the refrigerator. Do not freeze the pc battery. For best results, store the laptop battery at 40% state-of-charge.Before deploying any device, remember to read a manual supplied. |
